I’m fascinated by the relationship between human beings and the powerful, yet mortal spirits of the Orixas (Orishas). The Orixas are spirits that help enable human begins achieve the destiny that God planned for them before they were born. They are part of the African religion from the Yoruba nation that came to my home city during the slave trade. To be cohesive with my style of creation, I fuse my inspirations in these small figures by adding textures, blended colors, swirled lines, and intrinsic shapes from the ocean, other natural elements, and African symbolism. I call them Guardians. They offer peace and are intended to guard nature and ourselves.
